Awesome. Crazy, but not over the top. Reminds me of the "Make A Wish" series - it all depends on how far you'll take it in the end.
Oh, and may I request an Animagus form? I'm partial toward Dragons, but if you want to be original, Gryphon or Hippogryph seems to be a good choice. Unicorns are a bit... Pacifistic, Pegasi don't have the right symbolism (well, maybe... But no), Phoenix is overdone, as are most mundane animals. Although this Harry would certainly fit as a lion...

I find this story thoroughly enjoyable. It is nice to see a confident and powerful HP. I like the idea of him gathering friends because of what he is, not what his name is. I do hope you don't think the story is cliche, because even if it is, I still like it a lot better than about 90% of the stories being posted. Keep up the great work.

On the Ginny front- the twins are training Harry in everything, including women. Even if Ginny wasn't nuts, he's nit the kind of person you want with your baby sister until a few years later when he's a bit tamer. Also, even if the twins didn't feel that way they might say they did to help keep Melissa thinking they only had Harry's interests in mind.
