Clearly *something* made Kate do it that way--even if she genuinely wanted to take the job and was ultimately against trying to pursue a long-term relationship with Harry she generally wouldn't have been cruel to him in that situation because she's far too wise to permanently alienate an insanely valuable contact like one Lord Harry James Potter. It could be the kind of self-doubt that caused Katie Bell to intentionally alienate Harry in the backstory of "Hope," but I suspect not. I'm a little disappointed in Harry for not demanding she look him in the eye--though Kate's cruelty might well have been calculated so as to throw him off balance enough so that he *wouldn't* think to do that. Hopefully, he'll be inclined to dig a little deeper and not lose her totally as a friend, even though Word Of J says that the romance is done for good.
Looking forward to the next chapter.

I find myself at a bit of a loss. I want to do something more constructive then simply pointing and wailing "b-but I don't like it like that!" I remember that the Russians made plans to make Kate an offer she couldn't refuse; it just seems like she had more class then to be so crude and cruel to Harry. Especially after what happened when Harry killed Snape. I'm waiting to see what exactly her motivation for the nastyness is. The abrupt turnaround seems like it might be motivated by fear, but what do I know? It just didn't seem to flow as smoothly as the previous chapters. That said, I eagerly await the next installment.

Damn, that last scene was harsh.
And yet, I'm guessing that it was somebody from the Russian Embassy polyjuiced to look like her and play out the scene to have him not look for her in the future. Either way it is a good/abrupt way to finally kick him into full adulthood as he was extreemly sheltered while he was training these past months/years.
I'm looking forward to reading how it goes from here.

Is it wrong of me to hope that Kate dies alone and friendless at some later date? There's a line you don't cross, even if you're doing it for someone else's good, and she rather neatly crossed that line at rather high speed.

I think this is the perfect way to end Kate. This story is heating up and I'm excited to see what comes next!

Lord Jeebus, you took me through an emotional roller coaster. I actually gasped out loud and had my heart start beating hard in my chest at the scene with Gabrielle. I'm sad that Kate turned out the way it did, but not all great stories end with a happily ever after...
I love the darker elements that you've been introducing, but at the same time it hits me hard in the feels. Congratulations, I think this is the most captivating fanfic I've read in the last 3-4 years. Can't wait to read the next chapter. Merry Holidays and a Happy New Year! Hopefully your distractions are of the good sort!

Oh my..... Gabrielle thinks Harry trusts Natalia so she doesn't check her, and Harry is now trusting Natalia cause he thinks she passed Gabrielle's test..... this seems like a recipe for disaster. As for Kate... wow that was a big twist you threw in there... I somewhat think Harry should've erased several memories from her, especially since she knows several really important secrets.

Very happy to see another update! So many of the authors I've followed since I began reading fanfic have alowed their great work to fizzle and disappear.

Nicely done. Russia and China managed to get an in to Harry. Harry isn't stupid enough to think that Natalia's purpose is entirely innocent, as she really didn't lie about her being an intelligence agent. Special attache is essentially diplospeak for spy, after all. He might be naive enough to buy it, at first, but getting someone from a foreign embassy would set up a red flag. If not for him, then for his people who do know well enough what that means.
In Mei Lin's case, family connection. That she's Chinese Intelligence is one thing, but her familial connection to the Changs is what gave her the in, which makes some sense from the Chinese with their networking, or guanxi. It would also make some sense that she would be picked by the Chinese to be an intelligence agent, who happens to work with a legitimate import/export business, which was a well known method even before spy agencies even formed.
As to the major events, Fudge steps into it, the Wizengamot is made fools of again, and things are going to become pear shaped for the Wizarding World soon enough. I think Kate's motives are a bit different than Harry suspects. She knows he's getting into the big leagues and the Russians are making moves, moves which are getting her out of the picture. Honestly, her motives can be the basic ones, stay out of the line of fire, but she's also not stupid. Her getting a new job like that, and right as Harry is moving up in ways that draws a lot of attention, means that people are taking an interest in him. She's also trying to distance Harry, for his benefit, but also to put him in a frame of mind which will make him harder to manipulate.
Gonna love it when he realizes what is really going down. It might not repair their relationship, but the Russians are going to have someone they don't want mad at them seeing red.

*whistles* Now that's a poignant ending, and I have to wonder how much has been forced by outside forces, and I suspect things will get "interesting" all over the place. It was a fun chapter as various folk found out just what the real limitations they operate under are and how they can get scooped/bypassed if they are not proactive. Methinks that the Ministry of Magic is shortly going to receive a lot of royal attention and scrutiny as well as a thorough make-over, as, likely, will the Wizengamot.

Ooooh. Kate needs to be taken down a few pegs for that comment about Gabby. I've loved reading about her until this point, but that was over the line.
Thanks so much for the chapter. I really appreciate the time you take to write and post these stories, and I love reading your work. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you.

Ah... too bad about Kate. I guess it would have been too convenient. But it's still sad to see her burn the bridges quite so throughoutly.
The Americans are in an interesting position. In their position I'd send their 'asset' to Harry and have her introduce herself as special agent and inform him about the real status of the other ladies. And maybe why they are all so interested in him.
Jonathan has a magical niece... okay, I didn't see that one coming.
Overall this is a very interesting story and I'm eagerly awaiting the next part. Thanks for sharing and Merry Christmas.
