I must confess to being thoroughly confused by the notion of encrypting a spell, since, assuming it parallels the same notion as encrypting code, it must be decrypted before execution, and since it is self-contained out of necessity, it must necessarily contain its own encryption key, rendering the encryption effectively worthless.
On another note, it's good to see Harry encountering important life lessons, and finally dealing with the necessarily doomed-to-fail notion of forming a romantic entanglement with a professional escort (even if it does somehow sort of work in Firefly). I will be curious to see how the story develops as Harry moves onto the world stage.

I can think of plenty of reasons why Kate would do what she did there, including the quite obvious threats/bribes of the Russians trying to get in Harry's pants, but she really didn't feel all that genuine. Not that that's a bad thing, of course, but I get the feeling that after Harry leaves the room there's an unwritten scene of her crying her heart out on the floor. Or maybe that's just my bias in liking the character you've projected for her, she is supposed to be a high class escort and I'm sure that comes with acting skills generous enough to fool most. Such would be a feeling you would want your clients to have in that business. I can certainly agree with the note in your AN though, she is definitely one of my favorite characters, and I will admit to having hoped she'd stick around.
Natalia Anastasia Tiemerovna is the first of the Mata Hari's (well, tehcnically a spy)
shouldn't that be "Swallow"? This is one of the single greatest fics I've read. I thought the F off ending regarding Kate was pretty harsh. And I'm wondering where the whole Gabby sees Harry as God thing is going. But I expect it wont all be pretty. Really looking foreward to seeing more of Dawns role in this. Great work!!

Did you really have to end the part with Kate? She fit nicely into the plot. Every rich playboy should have a lovely escort to run to when things do bad and he needs some no strings attached comfort. Prospective girlfriends and interests just doesn't cut it. So sad you ended it.
Maybe we can have a brief reappearance somewhere down the line?

I am thoroughly enjoying this fic. Thanks so much.
BTW I believe the 'brass monkeys' to be a shorthand and more polite way way of referring to the saying 'cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey,' and that, I vaguely remember reading somewhere, was to do with the apparatuses called brass monkeys which held the cannon balls on a fighting ship.

An excellent chapter.
I do like the various powers showing interest in Harry and that the cold war is still going on in the mafical world.
I like Natalia and its nice Gabrielle has a role model. It was a pity Gabrielle did not get to spend time with Harry but he did make her happy.
What was done to the Minister's house was funny.
I liked Kate but I am glad she is gone I would much rather Harry was with a Veela eventually.
Thanks for this chapter.

Damn it, Tim. I really liked Kate. :P
I probably should try to leave a review that makes up for just getting caught up with this now. Since my brain is a bit overloaded with evertyhing that's happened in the last few chapters, I can only say that I'm so very glad you've continued with this and it's certainly going in directions I never imagined. You rock!

An amazing story and yor right Kate is an wonderful character. I hope we haven't seen the last of her. The confrontation between her and Harry just didn't jell with me. It didn'seem right. I like this Harry and the combination of characters and their role in the story. I amlooking forward to the rest of the tale. By the way I have read your other stories and this by far is a firm favorite. I eGerly await your next update. Thanks for a great read.

Jeconais- There are things I want to say to you that won't come out right. But here I go... I have the distinct honor of being a very bizarre type of hp nerd. I love Harry. And I love the world. And I love what you've done with it more than I can say. I'm also a special ops US marine. I started your fanfics before I joined. And after boot camp I read them again. After combat training I read them again. After my break up from someone who I thought was the one.. I read them again. You inspired me to start my own story. One that I sadly, abandoned, due to lack of time and change in writing style. Two days ago I returned from a trip that I can't say much about, except to call it the worst time of my life. Images I'll never forget and a friend whose smile I'll never see. I got back more depressed than I've ever been with no light in sight. Then I happened to Google 'jeconais' and stumbled upon this story. You might say 'It's just for fun' or whatever, but I started it a few hours ago. I cried for an hour when I saw you had something new. Before I EVEN READ IT I cried. I haven't cried since I was 12. I may not have cried out of happiness, but it was what I needed. You saved me tonight. Not from anything like suicide, I love myself way too much for that, but you saved me from a sadness I don't know how I would have dealt with. I'm only on chapter 5, but I've laughed more in the last couple hours than I thought I would ever laugh again. You have a gift. A special one. One that I'm grateful to be a part of and one that I hope you never give up. You have no idea who you touch and in what ways. I can't thank you enough for what you've done for me.. and I'll never be able to. Just know that you have a lifelong friend and fan in me. Thank you, jeconais. Even though those words don't seem to fit what I mean. -Ryan
