Don't remember if I've ever read this one before. I thought I'd read all of your work, J, but didn't remember this.

Fun piece. I enjoy the "AD realizes his mistakes and tries to correct them" stories, especially when done well. And you always do them well.

Lots of interlayered issues. Yeah, Harry, isolated at Hogwarts, wouldn't know of everything else going on, especially as Albus deliberately kept him in the dark.

About the only thing missing was seeing how the truth would've socially destroyed Ron, but that might just be the Ron-hater coming out in me.

Having read your author’s note at the beginning of this chapter, I just wish to say that I see no difference in the beginning of the story and your past stories. Both are fabulous and very enjoyable to read. I hope that you still continue writing and still find enjoyment in it.

Sadly, that is the heart of it all, Change, as it is both the most innovative, yet also the most feared of all concepts in any society. Without change, there is no growth, only stagnation, and eventually, death. Just the same as if there is no remorse or consequence for an action, there is no redeption or growth to be had. Harry, after his expulsion from Gryffindor, along with him being shunned by the rest of the School, including the Professors, truly felt as if He was the Freak that was told he was all his life, thereby not even a Human. So he began to think of himself as a Creature (even then he was not sure what kind of creature he was), and based his actions from there. Then used his theretofore reletively unused intelligence to devise a plan to escape his prison, which worked better than he ever expected, not only did he gain his freedom from the British Magical World, but he Opened many previously closed eyes, and caused said World to Change with those opened Eyes. Awesome. Thank You. TTFN

I discovered this story through a recommendation on another forum. A pleasant surprise. Enjoyed the first chapter especially as Harry planned his own exile from the wizarding world with such precision. Your writing gave the Harry character absolute focus in achieving his goal.

Your second chapter dealing with Harry's decision to leave the human world was a brilliant follow up. Dumbledore's continuing attempts to atone for his neglect and indifference was an interesting read. Especially enjoyed him locking Fudge up for the night, that was inspired creativity.

Thank you for leaving such a wonderful and thought provoking story to remain for us 'slow pokes' to catch up.

I find it odd that you have negative reviews for this story based on your prior stories. Every author grows and changes. I love your earlier works: they have the veneer of fairy tales and legends. And I love your latest works, which are perhaps darker or maybe just more realistic, but still enjoyable and fulfilling.

In conclusion, people are stupid. Ignore them.

It was pretty clear that without the bond (enforced by their own magic), and almost even with it still there, the Enclave Veela would have killed him on the spot. Sure, they don't follow human laws... but there are some rules of behavior and ethics they certainly share.

A BEAUTIFUL twist at the end of the first chapter. I was genuinely starting to think that Harry had left his humanity behind in the worst way.

I'm also relieved about what happened with Hermione. Abandoning one's friend is, frankly, despicable... but threat of an entire house hanging over one's head reduces some of that blame. Not all, not even most of it, but an appreciable amount.

I don't know if I've ever written this to you before in a review, so if I have, I apologize.

I think that the reason that the first chapter was unsatisfying for so many (such as me) is that in almost all HP stories, Harry is the hero, and often the Hero. (This was, and is, one of your beloved tropes. (This is NOT a complaint - that trope is one of the reasons I love reading your stuff.)) In this story, however, he wasn't a hero. If anything, it's a story where you have a teenager who has a teenager reaction and has PERMANENTLY affected his life. I suspect that somewhere in his fifties, he might look back and realize just what he did - by which time, it's too late. It's a well-written story, but the Harry in this is in no way even remotely describable as a hero of any sort. And I suspect that THAT is why a lot of people complained.

I enjoyed this more than the original because this one had more detail and showed more than just Harry's viewpoint. It also brings up a point that I am sad has not been really shown. The Wizarding World was lucky to get the Harry they did. The fact is with the way he was treated growing up he should have been another Tom Riddle or just a plain monster. I am still searching for a story that features that kind of Harry.

I really liked this story. Though the first part did seem a bit rushed in places, the story was still very enjoyable. As always, your flow was very good, your characters believable and real, the humorous bits were enjoyable, and overall the only thing I find myself disappointed with is the fact that there isn't more of it to read. I also read "Hope" and "Motivations" and all of the compliments noted in this review would absolutely be appropriate for those stories as well. Thank you for the gift of your writings. I truly loved this story. I liked how Harry was just done with everything, and that he stayed that way and found happiness in other ways rather than just acceping what he was given by the adults in his life. Well done!! :)

That acting on his guilt made it seem so easy and logical to punish these things and go after the rot deep inside their society is the worst part of it. And even that pales in front of the epiphany that albus' sins go further back up to his time with Grindelwald and the first snafu with a student in person of Tom Riddle.

I'm still disappointed in Hermione and especially her not even sending a note for Christmas. And ultimately it's depressing that even Albus going against his mistakes long ignored is not inspiring more cooperation and volunteered initiative amongst the british wizards and witches. You really know how to make even good things sound depressing ;)
