Whoops.... yeah. I enjoyed watching Spike, and he was quite the memorable character, but he wasn't there to help them, especially not at the start. It would have made much more sense to ask a few questions and then just put him out of their - and his, I suppose - misery.

Of course, the events and reactions of the characters on BtVS aren't known for logic, they're known for drama/angst. sigh.
