Fanfic Update

Jeconais posted on Sunday 15th January 2006 9:32am

I figure it's about time that I did a quick update on where I am with various pieces of fanfiction.

  • Hope
Part 8 is written and is in beta.  There will only be two more parts after that, and one epilogue
  • Alone 3/These Dreams
Kokopelli's been putting some stellar work into this, but I've not had time to keep up my end.
  • No Good Deed
This is about to go into beta.  It's a fic that is the product of insomnia over the past few days.  Friday lunch time, I decided to write my good friend, Draco664 a little present to celebrate his little announcement.  It was supposed to be a drabble.  When I couldn't sleep Friday night, I got up and started to type.  A few hours later I was exhausted and able to sleep.  The same thing happened last night, but I actually got it finished.  It reached the 30 page mark, and is an almost canon (as in, as near as I get to canon) Harry/Cho fic.  I know there is a lot of Cho!Hate in the fandom, but I can't say it bothers me, and I enjoyed writing it (mind you, I would have enjoyed sleeping more)
  • The Matryoshka Vignettes
Needs another 2 1 0 written before they are finished.
For those that don't know, the M!Vignettes are a series of short stories set in the Perfect Situations universe that cover the aftermath of Daphne's speech.  With special guest authors now included, the whole thing is four times as long as the original.  The last two will close the loop to allow me to write the third part.
  • As yet untitled Harry/Fleur fic
After I received a very nice christmas present of a Harry/Fleur short story from a friend, I decided to write one myself.  Only I got carried away, and it's about to hit the 50 page mark and I've hardly worked at it.  I don't know what I'm going to do with it, as it is generic Jeconais!Fanfiction - with all the staples you know and like/hate.
The basic idea is that Fleur took it into her own hands to talk to Harry about what happened during the final task, and Voldemorts routine - focusing Harry on the idea of avenging rather than mourning.  Strangely enough, Fleur then leaves and probably won't be seen again for some time...

The basic problem I have with updating at the moment is time.  I don't have any.  I'm working a hell of a lot of hours at the moment (and I've worked most of this weekend) for the people that pay my salary, and that doesn't leave much time to do anything else.  I'm also running this website which takes time as well - not to mention the coding that is involved behind the scenes.  And more important than all of this is spending time with my wife.

Oh, and don't ask about stories that aren't on this list.  This list is just stories that are close to being ready, and have no bearing on other stories.

I can't wait until you finish Hope, but I'm frothing at the bit for you to finish Wild Horses, especially now that Kinsfire's crossing the characters over into Ties of Blood. Do you know if he's doing an AU version of your AU story, or will he be including spoilers? Either way, keep up the excellent work.

Hey
I haven't written fanfictionbefore, so i have no idea of the beta(ing) process. I appreciate it varies in time span but don't suppose someone can give some form of estimate of how long it will be till the next installment of hope is up.
Cheers
Nick

Today was pretty normal until I came over here to check for any news. I now have a bruise on my knee from my leggings shooting up into the underside of a table, my heart rate has suddenly doubled, my breaths grew short, and I may have strained my back from leaning forward to make sure I read right. Yes, indeed, I did in fact see the word "Hope" prominently bolded in your post. I am now the proud owner of a bruise that was well worth the trouble of getting it. Tonight's inevitable insomnia resulting from extreme anticipation and tomorrow's exhaustion will be welcomed with open arms. I would say that I was looking forward to reading chapter eight, but that would the most enormous understatement that I've ever said. And now that I've finished gushing, I will conclude this comment.

We appreciate you throwing us an update on time - it's nice to know the last couple weeks have been the exception rather than the rule. (Ruskbyte, I'm looking at you...) ;) Gotta say I'm really looking forward to Matryoshka Vignettes; if it's half a deceptively awesome as Perfect Situations was, I'm'a hunker down with some popcorn and enjoy myself. Thanks again!

Sorry to bug you with this, but how exactly do you pronounce Gruoch? It's starting to get to me...

Forgive me for these honeyed words, but you, my friend, have to be one of THE very few shinning beacons in HP fanon nowdays. Normally fairy like stories make me want to brush my teeth, but by gods with your works, i.e. Hope, I'll brush my teeth and read at the same time if I have to. The level and quality of the characters' portrayals are simply suppendous and the plotlines are absolutely riveting!

While I definitely don't write or normally read the kinds of stories you write, more than any other author, you have truly inspired and shaped how I look at what I write and I'm certain I'm not the only one. I, eagerly, wait for what else you have to offer and wish you the best of luck!

I have recently been bored with the routine plots for the other fanfictions I have been reading and recently changed to Harry Potter Fics. At firsst I found that they too lacked a lot of imagination but after awhile, I found some gems and I must say that yours (especially Hope) was one of the brightest.

Keep up the great work and can't wait for your updates.
