The general quality of my stories
Jeconais posted on Thursday 29th April 2010 11:55am
TL;DR Version: Stories are not betad like they used to be, and the writing itself is worse. Don't like? Don't read.
Full Version:
After years of trying to fool myself into thinking that I'll get back to writing like I once did, I've faced the fact that those days are gone. Stories like Hope, WK,GQ, TMW etc are in my past, and will not be topped.
Stories posted in the future will either be lightly betad or not betad at all. I am well aware that the quality of the work will be a lot less because of this. If that sort of thing bothers you, then please, do NOT read anything new. Previously I had ambitions (delusions) of being a professional writer, I've accepted that won't happen, and that I'll just keep writing shittier fanfiction until I run out of stories, then I'll do something else. The cost of writing like I used to is to high for me to pay now, and I have different priorities.
Along with the technical problems, my reasons for writing have changed. Now, I just write for my own personal entertainment, so I end up taking shortcuts, writing cliches and generally falling into bad habits. If I hadn't written ffa.net, I probably wouldn't even post the stories here. But at the end of the day, I pay for this and spend a lot of time making it work, so I should get some benefit from it. I also find it far more enjoyable to write code for FFA.net than write the stories.
Remember, this is free entertainment, and you have been warned.

Heh, so your reasons have changed. Well, considering that it seemed to me that you were beginning to see it like work instead of entertainment, the hiatus you took is understandable.
Still, you are one of the better writers out there since you actually have a natural gift for words and people love your stories. Anyway, I won't bother buttering you up any further (the other reviewers have that covered nicely). Just glad to see you're still writing, and for yourself.

Jeconais, you'll probally never see this comment, but I want to let you know, that you have given me & my best friend, (we are both blind), many many hours of reading enjoyment, as has Bobmin, I miss you both & if life gets in the way, dont worry, your stories have been read many times over & enjoyed everytime.
I myself write as well, but being dyslexic & legally blind, I find it a challenge, most of my stuff is crap compared to yours, You & Bobmin inspired me to write, a long time ago, I hope whatever your doing now, is giving you the same joy that your stories give me.

If your current work is you taking it easy I don't care. I love Konoha's Legion and Hogwart's Dawn. Both are great fun. I still occasionally hope for the sequel to Happily Ever After, but if it never comes, oh well. I love your current works. I hope you manage to keep your love of writing for as long as possible.

Alright, this is very belated, and I'm not sure if your even going to see this comment anymore, however, i must say this. I've been a fan of yours for a few years now. You are a very talented writer and it is sad to see that your not going to focus like you used to. That part being said, i do understand that priorities change as life moves so i get your reasoning. What im not going to accept is that your going to stop aspiring to be a writer. YOU HAVE TALENT! I am hopelessly addicted to your HP stories and you are my favorit fiction author with abraxan in second (sorry abraxan) Your time to shine and flourish has not yet passed. I would love nothing more than to see an original work of yours in book form. You have the skill, you just need to find the motivation, even if you only write for 5 minutes at a time 2 times a week. Keep that dream alive...Alright i had to let you know that, and beautiful work with the site, truly and remarkably talented..Thanks for you work and caring though you didnt have to do any of it. It brought many people together and with me suggestion to other avid readers to check out all the talent on FFA.net you'll have many more hordes of raving readers to compliment all of you until you die of ego boost's. Which will be a sad day as well as a funny day purely on principle

I have read close to 1500 fan-fictions in several different 'verses, and I can say that out of all of the authors that I have read material from, you are very near the top.
The top of my list is authors that I do not bother to try to rank: Perfect Lionheart, Pudgypudge, Doghead Thirteen, Lord of the Land of Fire, Jeconais, Truegeta(now Alexander Fields).

Not one for long diatribes and I rarely comment (much to my embarrassment) however, Your stories, and your work has contributed for the past few years to staving off my boredom in a succession of cubicle jobs, and i have naught but your worlds that you play in to keep me sane. Anyhow, keep up the good work and do what you like! i could care less about beta'd work, hell it's still better than 98% of the stuff out there unbeta'd. don't grill yourself so hard. Cheers!

Tim,
If you haven't gathered already, your Fans would rather read your laundry list than most of the pferdreck that gets posted as fan fiction by other so-called authors. I am happy to see some of the best I have encountered elsewhere beginning to appear on FFA, and to see you returning, in whatever fashion.
Don't give up on the writing career either. Writers no better than you have gotten publishing contracts off of fan fiction sites, to my knowledge!
I would certainly second a request for more "Perfect Slytherins" and "Bunny at Hogwarts" installments. So funny.

I love your Harry/Daphne stories. They are some of the best I've read. Thank you for writing them, and all the stories you do. I hope that one day you might write some more Harry/Daphne tales. Thank you for ffa.net!

Hello,
I am a real H&G fan They will always be my favorit even if I have read H&L and so if it isn't a story I like I don't read it.
But your stories are so good Jeconais, keep writing All Night Long - Alone -& These Dream A Trilogy I gave them a try and loved These are my all time favorite stories I can't tell you how many times I have read them and This Means War. I laugh and cry in your stories and still feel good when it's over only I want more.
Good Luck in all you do. Thanks again for the ride.........
Thanks for taking me along for the ride and now I am reading your next one

Every time I check authors for updates you are first on my list. I have read everything posted here and will for as long as you choose to write. Fiction written for fun is the same idea as reading it for fun. Please keep it up!

I've always enjoyed your stories hugely and the whacky ride you're currently sending Harry on is exactly the make-me-laugh-out-loud romp I love very much. I hope you will keep writing, but most importantly, I hope you will enjoy writing. The fact that the rest of us get to then enjoy it too is a lovely bonus.

Great to see you writing again. I love your stories, your HP/DG being my absolute favorite. I can say without a doubt that your worst fics are better than the majority of the trash out there so I really don't care about any 'mistakes'.
Frankly your 'silly' fics are some of the best I think. They are all the more entertaining because of their silliness. While we are on the subject do you think you would be updating Bunny in Hogwarts?

Tim,
How long have I been following your work...I can remember being one of your earliest reviewers on the nightmare that can be called ff.net. I keep coming back and rereading your fics, and keep praying that one day you will bring back (FUCK I CANT REMEMBER THE NAME OF IT) it was a fic where harry and draco become friends after being roundly tortured by the D.E.'s. even if you just post it as a lost train...maybe someone could see if they could play it out a bit more...I love your writing style adn the flavor adn tempo has always had a great flow...I am not gonna be going anywhere anytime soon...found a few authors I probably overlooked elsewhere (Jbern). Keep up the fun stuff (Perfect Slytherins is a major diamond)

All I can say is that I have enjoyed everything of yours that I have read over the years. I have never been disappointed by anything that you have posted, and look forward to each new chapter. I just finished chapter 1 of HD and I can tell that I will enjoy it, as I have enjoyed your other stories. Keep up the good work!

well once upon atime in a land somewhere close to three thousand miles from here I came across the world of fanfiction back during the end of DBZ reign. I struggled on and off with my slight obssesion with the little world we authors and readers have created here and tried to move on. Than I found this site and I can honestly say the only complaint I have ever had is the lack of speedy updates, but that in itself is hipocritialy based on my own lack of updates. Yet as sad as it is to say the your professional writing career may never pick up, you do get a unique pleasure at having tons of readers tell you mostly day in and out how much we love your work past and present. I hope with you newly found direction of posting will possibly bring faster updates to some of your stories and maybe even taking back up abandonded stories that you at the time didn't feel comfortable finishing since they were too cliche'. Maybe a sequal to best man. but all and all while minor editoral parts might be missing your plot and general style is what brings us all here always waiting for more. and who knows the way I'm told professianal careers can happen suddenly or even in ways you might not have expected. I know MARJORIE LIU started as a Wolverine and Jubilee fanfic site owner/story writer(yes that is how long I have been around fanfiction). Over coarse its her dirty secret that she doen't like to admit to, but she writes stories on characters she loves and enjoys and sometimes that is enough so never say never and hopefully we don't see you leave our little community for you would be surley missed.

So I just read HD, and honestly, I can't see anyone nitpicking at it. It's wonderful, funny, engaging and I can't see any of this degradation in quality that you're talking about.
If I had to choose between a professionally written book, and a new story of yours, you would win every time.
Thank you for hours of laughter and entertainment, and here's me hoping you'll provide much much more!

HD looks like it's going to end up being a really good story. It's easy to read, and easy to understand. I really like the idea of Harry offering a bounty on DE arms, showing a Dark Mark.

Hey mate,
First up thank you so much for providing quality fanfiction to us poor sods over the past few years... I personally remember getting hooked on Hope little over 3 years ago.. I swear I almost failed first year of Uni cause I was devouring the work you put up...While I'm sorry the professional writing gig didn't pan out I must say that you shouldn't sell yourself short...If everyone had your flair for writing then fanfiction would be so much more enjoyable and not the half assed shit we get from people that can't string proper sentences.
Hogwart's Dawn has been a delight to read so far and if it's indicative of later works I say your fan base is just going to keep expanding.
So cheers mate for the hours you've put in to deliver quality writings to us...

Wow Tim, look at all of these people, here and in the review section for Hogwart's Dawn, telling your how much they enjoy your work. There's a point there I think. :-)
I'm sorry the professional writing goal didn't transpire. But I fully understand the enormous fun and *satisfaction* that can be gleaned from writing good, powerful, compact and efficient code. I've spent the last six months learning and working with LAMP myself. A whole new world. Quite exciting!
I've seen glimpses before, in years gone by, of unbeta'd Jeconais writing, and yeah, the mistakes niggled at times. But honestly, chapter 1 of Hogwart's Dawn was nigh perfect in that regard. So, be it "lightly beta'd" or not at all, I don't think there's going to be a problem.
One question I'd like to ask; like Tarkas, I'm wondering what your announcement here bodes for the work that you've had on your schedule, published a couple of times over the last couple of years? Perfect Slytherins, Castles in the Sky, your H/Lavender story? From what you've said in the past you've had large slabs of those stories already written? If this "future work will be unbeta'd" 'warning' means those stories will be coming down the pipeline, great! If not ... well, I'd like to see what you had written anyway, and now you have no excuse not to publish. :-)
(Funnily enough, just an hour ago I posted a quick message on a HP forum suggesting that R/Lavender would be much more stable than R/Hr, and that R/Lavender was quite similar to H/G. Particularly once Lavender had matured a little and lost those childish excesses of enthusiasm that she displayed in HBP (which I'm not sure you've read by now?). "H/G supports R/Lavender!" was my concluding statement. So it would have been interesting to see you actually swap Lavender for Ginny in a H/Lavender story.)
