You killed Kenny, you $%£$%£$%

Well, if not Kenny, then the server.
So, what do I call this, the jeconais-dot effect?
Far to many people tried to access at the same time last night, and the server had such a sulk that I couldn't even ssh in, and had to get it rebooted.
It looks like I'm going to have to do some upgrading.
Fanfic Update
Jeconais posted on Sunday 15th January 2006 9:32am
I figure it's about time that I did a quick update on where I am with various pieces of fanfiction.
- Hope
Part 8is written and is in beta. There will only be two more parts after that, and one epilogue Alone 3/These Dreams
Kokopelli's been putting some stellar work into this, but I've not had time to keep up my end.- No Good Deed
This is about to go into beta. It's a fic that is the product of insomnia over the past few days. Friday lunch time, I decided to write my good friend, Draco664 a little present to celebrate his little announcement. It was supposed to be a drabble. When I couldn't sleep Friday night, I got up and started to type. A few hours later I was exhausted and able to sleep. The same thing happened last night, but I actually got it finished. It reached the 30 page mark, and is an almost canon (as in, as near as I get to canon) Harry/Cho fic. I know there is a lot of Cho!Hate in the fandom, but I can't say it bothers me, and I enjoyed writing it (mind you, I would have enjoyed sleeping more) - The Matryoshka Vignettes
Needs another210 written before they are finished.
For those that don't know, the M!Vignettes are a series of short stories set in the Perfect Situations universe that cover the aftermath of Daphne's speech. With special guest authors now included, the whole thing is four times as long as the original. The last two will close the loop to allow me to write the third part. - As yet untitled Harry/Fleur fic
After I received a very nice christmas present of a Harry/Fleur short story from a friend, I decided to write one myself. Only I got carried away, and it's about to hit the 50 page mark and I've hardly worked at it. I don't know what I'm going to do with it, as it is generic Jeconais!Fanfiction - with all the staples you know and like/hate.
The basic idea is that Fleur took it into her own hands to talk to Harry about what happened during the final task, and Voldemorts routine - focusing Harry on the idea of avenging rather than mourning. Strangely enough, Fleur then leaves and probably won't be seen again for some time...
The basic problem I have with updating at the moment is time. I don't have any. I'm working a hell of a lot of hours at the moment (and I've worked most of this weekend) for the people
that pay my salary, and that doesn't leave much time to do anything else. I'm also running this website which takes time as well - not to mention the coding that is involved behind the
scenes. And more important than all of this is spending time with my wife.
Oh, and don't ask about stories that aren't on this list. This list is just stories that are close to being ready, and have no bearing on other stories.
Aftermath
Jeconais posted on Saturday 14th January 2006 3:23am
For some reason, Aftermath seems to be a very popular fic - despite the fact that it has many problems with it.
I also get a lot of requests for people wanting to continue it, so this is a blanket "yes". All I ask is that you mention where you got the idea from, and send me the link.
If it's of interest to you to do so, my basic ideas for the rest of the fic were - and feel free to use or disregard as you like:
- Harry talks to Snape about Ginny - asking for love advice. Snape is as embarrassed as hell, and doesn't know how to respond.
- Harry - not dating Ginny yet - visits the Burrow for Christmas. When he gets there, Fred and George are pranking, and he shouts, "Down and give me 20" and Fred, George, Bill, Charlie, and Percy all drop and start doing press-ups... because they all know Harry pretty well, because they worked with him during the war.
- A Quidditch match, where Harry is a beater (size and strength) agaisnt the Slytherins... He see's Draco as Seeker foul Ginny as Seeker, and whacks a bludger as hard as he can - straight into Draco's face - knocking him out and letting Ginny get the snitch.
- The duel with Sirius
Around that, is the whole Harry learning to be human, and not get into frightening situations. One of the important things is that Harry is an adult - so acts as one, so kids behaviour will confuse him.
Site updates
Jeconais posted on Thursday 12th January 2006 4:22am
First, as a belated update, there is now (obviously) the ability to add comments to these sorts of posts.
Second, "Change Look" link above has been changed. It is no longer a simple javascript style changer, it now goes to a page where you can change the site colours as
well as move the navigation around. Personally, I'm running in the "Top" mode.
But what if you don't like the colors? Then send me your own and I'll add them to the site (if they look good). Simply download this file,
change it and email it to me. Yes, it does assume that you have some basic CSS knowledge.
ETA: I've had some reports about people not being able to get the navigation position to change. This is because of a cookie the old version of the site
set. To be able to use this, that cookie has got to be deleted - unfortunately, the automatic delete does not seem to delete if the cookie was set to null.
In firefox it's easy to delete the cookies - go to Tools -> Options (Edit -> Options if you are on Linux) -> Privacy -> Cookies -> View Cookies. In the filter, type
fanficauthors, and then delete every "style" cookie you see - this will reset everything so it works.
Internet Explorer users have a harder job. The easiest way is to go to Tools -> Options -> Delete Cookies - but this will delete EVERY cookie you have stored on your computer.
There is a more complicated way that involved doing a search for a folder called "cookies" then finding every fanficauthors.net cookie, but I'd rather not say how to do that, as I don't want people
complaining if it breaks.
Status of This Means War
Jeconais posted on Friday 18th November 2005 5:19am
As it's the single top question I get asked, I figured I'd make a statement about This Means War
The story is NOT abandonded. However, it is on hiatus until I get the motivation and desire to write the final part.
I refuse to compromise the quality by rushing it, so until I want to write it, I'll continue to write the stories that interest me.
Major Updates
Jeconais posted on Monday 14th November 2005 2:07pm
Well, I've been more than a little bit busy on this site, and behind the scenes, practically everything has changed. So, what has changed?
- Moved all static html to optimised php, but this should be completely transparent
- Standardised all ratings tags across all .ffa.net accounts. Each rating tag now has a tooltip that will show you what the rating is
- Added review count to story list pages and chapter list pages
- Updates to the admin side you don't care about
- Added age check to adult stories, as well as "bug me not" options. This is done on the "if it's good enough for Yahoo!" basis, it's good enough for me. Sure, people might lie, but no one can now stumble across stuff they would rather not read by accident
- And speaking of that, chapters can now have different ratings to stories, but the chapter list page will show all ratings, so you can see before hand
- And while we're on this subject, you will have to login before you can access the Mature and Adults Only stuff - this is for my protection as much as yours.
- The login was updated a while ago, and your account at j.ffa.net is valid at ALL .ffa.net sites, and you only have to login once.
- The email alert page has been redsigned to take this into account - you can sign up to all authors in one easy place
If anything doesn't work, well, it's not as if my email address isn't plastered all over the site...
PDA Files

I've added a load of PDA files to the website for downloading, the link is in the top, along with reading instructions.
Ratings
Jeconais posted on Saturday 11th June 2005 1:00am
Well, with the MPAA deciding that anyone using ratings for anything other than movies is breaking copyright, I've relunctantly changed my own.
- Everyone: roughly equivalent to a G rating in the US or a U rating in the UK.
- Young Teens: roughly equivalent to a PG rating in the US or a PG rating in the UK.
- Teens: roughly equivalent to a PG13 rating in the US or a 12 or 12A rating in the UK.
- Mature: roughly equivalent to an R rating in the US or a 18 rating in the UK.
- Adult Only: roughly equivalent to NC-17 in the US and R18 in the UK.
More updates
Jeconais posted on Monday 6th June 2005 8:37am
A few more updates.
- Added a style switcher that allows you to move the navigation from left to right. Not really important, but more me just playing with style sheets. Found a few interesting bugs in Mozilla when doing it.
- Added a font sizer (well, actually that was last week, but I forgot to announce it) that allows you to change size and font - and clear them back to default.
- Updated the doctype to XHTML 1.0 strict, as I realised I'd removed the last table, and everything is now done in div tags.
